BA unveils biggest ever summer schedule at Gatwick for a decade
Today British Airways have unveiled what is set to be their biggest ever summer schedule at London Gatwick in almost ten years; which is incredibly exciting news for the UK carrier and the West Sussex airport.
Last year saw BA operate an average of one thousand flights per week. This year will see British Airways operate more than one hundred and fifty additional flights per week. The news comes following IAG’s successful takeover of the slots previously held by Monarch.
So let’s take a look at parts of the summer schedule, which includes three new routes!
Additional Flying (Year round)
Malaga flights will be increased to 35 per week. +8 vly
Flights to Alicante will operate 22 times per week. +8 vly
Faro will see an increase to 21 flights per week. +4 vly
New Summer Routes
Gatwick – Palma (Majorca) – 8 times per week
Gatwick – Mahon (Menorca) – 3 times per week
Gatwick – Gibraltar – 6 times per week
Additional Flying (Summer schedule)
Tenerife will operate 13 times per week. +7 vly
Flights to Funchal, Madeira will be boosted to 9 per week. +3 vly
Lanzarote flights will rise to five per week. +2 vly
Previously announced long-haul routes
Let’s not forget that British Airways are introducing two new long-haul routes from Gatwick this year. Very soon passengers will be able to fly to Toronto and Las Vegas, routes which I am sure will be very popular indeed.
Booking Information
The 150 additional flights operating from/to London Gatwick are being released for sale on BA.com gradually, so keep an eye out on their website for when everything becomes available. The 2018 summer schedule runs between the 25th of March and the 27th of October, which pretty much follows British Summer Time (BST) here in the United Kingdom.
Final Thoughts
Well, this is certainly fantastic news for British Airways and London Gatwick. Over the years we have seen the number of routes served by BA from LGW reduce; but since 2012 it is impressive to see more and more routes return to the airport. Are you hoping to fly this summer?
