Delta unveils Zac Posen-designed, inspired employee uniforms

Delta Air Lines have just unveiled their brand new employee uniform, which has been designed by renowned New York fashion designer Zac Posen. More than 60,000 frontline colleagues will sport the contemporary collection, which blends bold colour pallets with classic styles. Posen has previously designed garments for the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Glenn Close and Uma Thurman to name a few.

The uniforms for “above-wing” colleagues are being manufactured and supplied by Wisconsin-based Lands’ End.

The company has also taken inspiration from Zac Posen’s designs to create a uniform for “below-wing” colleagues.

PS…

Above-wing = Airport customer service, ticketing, gate agents, Delta Sky Club and in-flight service employees.
Below-wing = Airport customer service, Delta Cargo, ground support equipment maintenance and Delta TechOps employees.

What I love is that the airline is still paying homage to its heritage with the new uniforms.

Zac Posen sought for advice and inspiration from almost every department across the airline in order to develop functional and stylish garments which are fit for purpose. The mix of colours used have been dubbed as Passport Plum, Cruising Cardinal and Groundspeed Graphite, with accents of Skyline Slate and Traveling Thistle.

Approximately 1,000 employee ambassadors will begin to wear the test-uniforms from as early as December. Following on, a series of tweaks and adjustments will be made based on internal and external feedback before the uniforms are rolled out on a global scale in early 2018.

I’ve always liked Delta’s uniform, however I think the new look is perfect. The Atlanta-based airline last updated its uniform collection for “above-the-wing” employees in 2006 – and for “below-the-wing” colleagues in 2000… therefore a refresh has been well overdue. In a way, it sort-of aligns Delta’s uniform with Vivienne Westwood’s designs for Virgin Atlantic – where Delta are a 49% shareholder.

So what do you think of the new uniform? Do you love it or hate it?
