Jamie Oliver’s Diner coming to Gatwick Airport
As the summer holidays get underway, many of us will possibly be passing through an airport. If you live on the South Coast of the U.K. like me, chances are you’ll fly from Gatwick Airport. Whilst waiting for your flight, it would be rude not to grab something to eat – and of course there are plenty of outlets to choose from. Well from August – there is another one to add onto your list. Jamie Oliver’s Diner.
The Lowdown
Award-winning British chef Jamie Oliver is set to open a brand new restaurant within the international departure lounge area at Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal. Located on the second floor, The diner will serve up good old comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere. According to Gatwick Airport Limited, the restaurant will be one of the largest on property – with 627 square metres of space for around 278 covers at any one given time. Gatwick’s outlet will be the second for the brand, following on from a flagship location in bustling Leicester Square in London.
Eat In or Take-Out
I had a little look at the menu for the London location online and there are quite a few dishes which will probably make their way over to Gatwick too. How about Chocolate chunk pancakes with caramelised banana and toasted pecans, “Jamie’s Insanity Burger” (Beef patty, maple bacon, bourbon burger sauce, Sparkenhoe cheese and pickles), or a Super corn and Quinoa salad?
The diner is also set to feature a “grab and go” section which is ideal if you want to take food on board the aircraft with you. Nando’s offer a take-out service at Gatwick, so why shouldn’t Jamie’s?
Why Is This Good News?
The opening of a new dining outlet at Gatwick Airport in the South Terminal is a very good move. Not only does this offer more choice for passengers flying through the airport on where to eat, but it also shows that they are continuously investing in ways to enhance the experience for passengers. With both British Airways and Norwegian offering more flights to North America from the terminal, an American-themed restaurant is a good move. For Jamie himself, he will now have a restaurant in both terminals at Gatwick. Jamie’s Italian can be found in the North Terminal, and now the diner in the South.
