My favourite packing tips

Packing is always the element of going away which I have a love-to-hate relationship with. I start off by being very organised and gently placing items into my suitcase and checking them off my list. Fast forward to the last-minute; and you’ll find I literally just throw things in from the other side of the living room. Oh well!

Today I’d thought I would share with you some of my favourite packing tips; which do help now and then. 😉

  • Make a list and check it twice!
Not for Santa to see if you’ve been naughty or nice, but I find making a list of what I want to take with me and checking it off when I place it in the suitcase is a great idea. Admittedly, I now have a very lovely template on my laptop which I can just print off whenever I’m about to begin packing. Don’t judge please.
  • Roll, don’t fold.
It’s a rather subjective matter, but I’ve learned (and taken advice from others) that the best way to pack your suitcase is to roll your clothes. I’ve tried both methods a number of times and surprisingly got more in my suitcase by rolling.
  • Pack your socks inside your shoes.
To save more room for souvenirs and other items, why not pack a couple of pairs of socks inside your shoes? It actually protects the shape of the shoe too!
  • Got loads of electronic devices? Place each charger in a separate see-through bag!
I don’t know about you, but I always take a ton of electronic devices with me when jetsetting. If I place these all in one bag, they usually get all tangled-up. So follow the above and you’ll never have to untangle a cable again.
  • Taking shirts? Keep the collar “in-shape” by using a belt!
It might seem crazy, but place any spare belts you might be taking with you in the neck of the shirt.
  • Place toiletries in resealable bags to avoid spills.
It’s a pretty simple thing to do; and you’ll thank me when you don’t have to clean toothpaste off of your t-shirt.
  • Place heavier items towards the bottom of your case.
It might seem obvious, but the amount of times I’ve seen passengers at the airport with cases that fall-over because they are top-heavy is beyond me. Gravity is a thing folks.
  • Make use of all the available space.
Again, slightly obvious – but make sure you place things in every singe nook and cranny of the suitcase; and don’t forget that some magazines to read while you are away can easily fit in the pockets or in a plastic bag on the base of the case before you start packing.
