Walt Disney World News: Ratatouille is coming to EPCOT!

Bonjour Everyone! Today I have some rather exciting news to share. At the past weekend’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California – Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts announced that a new “Ratatouille”– inspired attraction will be coming to EPCOT!

This rumour has been going around in the Disney community for an incredibly long time. So for the attraction to finally be confirmed this is great news. What’s more – the attraction will be opening in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021!

If you didn’t know, Disneyland Paris opened at Ratatouille-themed attraction in 2014, which saw the launch of a whole new area within the Walt Disney Studios park. Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy opened in 2014 and remains as a firm favourite to this day. It is a dark-ride attraction which uses the latest cutting-edge trackless technology as guests shrink down to the size of a rat, board a rat-themed vehicle (rat-mobile?!)and scurry through Gusteau’s Restaurant on a fun family-orientated adventure.

The Orlando attraction will be located within an expanded France pavilion which can be found around World Showcase at EPCOT. The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow is one of my favourite theme-parks at the Walt Disney World resort. Where else can you take a stroll through a variety of different countries without even leaving Central Florida?

In preparation for the 35th anniversary of EPCOT, Walt Disney World have committed to ensuring the park is updated to make it “more timeless, more relevant, more family and more Disney, while staying true to its original vision beginning”.

Last month I had the opportunity to return to Disneyland Paris to discover their 25th Anniversary celebrations, and I ventured straight over to the Walt Disney Studios Park to experience Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy. I’m not going to give too much away at all, but it was beautiful. Even watching the trackless vehicles “dance” around is mesmerizing. At Disneyland Paris, the attraction is situated within a new area called La Place de Rémy.

It certainly seems like there have been many exciting announcements from the D23 Expo, but there’s more to come! What do you think about Ratatouille venturing across the pond to the France pavilion at EPCOT? I think it is great news.

  1. This is pretty awful, about on par with killing off the wonderful Norway Viking ride to make a Frozen cartoon ride instead. Disney cartoon rides belong in the Magic Kingdom, not EPCOT. Part of what makes EPCOT so special is the lack of traditional Disney stuff.

  2. I think Disney has had a real problem keeping Walt’s original vision for EPCOT while also keeping it relevant. With all the recent/current renovations to MK, HS, and AK I think EPCOT was in danger of being left behind. I liked the original Norway ride, but also think incorporating Frozen into it instantly breathed some life into that park. I think adding the Guardians of the Galaxy ride and Ratatouille in France will bring some excitement back into EPCOT. I think their changes also help EPCOT keep the attention of families with younger kids.

    1. Hi Shaun! I completely agree with you. I know it’s a topic which has divided many Disney fans around the world, but as you said – these new attractions and experiences will help to bring some excitement back into EPCOT. 🙂
