Discovering a #BetterWayToFly to New Zealand

I recently had the opportunity to attend an event which showcased how you can experience A better way to fly to New Zealand with the help of multi-award winning airlines Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand.

Hosted in an underground events space just off the Strand in London; guests like myself had the opportunity to learn more about New Zealand as a destination and the in-flight experience offered by SQ and NZ without the need to step anywhere close to an airport.

Combing the use of VR, iPads, music and seat mock-ups, it was a great event where I even had the chance to sample some of the food typical of Singapore and New Zealand. Noodles and Lamb! Other dishes are also famous from those countries I must add…

My very own “Singapore Sling”!

If that wasn’t enough, I was invited to take part in a cocktail masterclass where I learned how to make the famous Singapore Sling. The cocktail was first created in 1915 at the luxurious Raffles Hotel in Singapore. I must thank my friend and fellow travel write @TurningLeftForLess for helping. P.S. Is Ginger Ale actually in a Singapore Sling? Or did we come up with a new version?

Following this, I was free to roam around the gallery and there were plenty of friendly and approachable representatives from both airlines and Tourism New Zealand; whom were happily answering questions and helping with an interactive quiz; which was fun yet challenging at the same time.

Benefits of flying to New Zealand with SQ and AirNZ

There are dozens of benefits of why you should fly to Middle-Earth with Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand; however I’ve listed a couple below.

Transiting through Changi Airport

Now this is something which I really need to add to my bucket list. Singapore’s Changi Airport is renowned as being one of the most awarded airports in the world. Considering it features a rooftop swimming pool, a four-storey slide and an aviation museum – I really can’t understand why. Both Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand operate out of the same terminal; so there is no need to transfer between terminals; that’s a huge added bonus.

In addition, customers who transit through the airport may be eligible to receive a free SGD$20 Changi Dollar Voucher. This can be used across the airport at a variety of establishments including shops, restaurants and the Ambassador Transit Lounge.

If your transit at Changi is longer than 5.5 hours, you are able to enjoy a free 2.5 hour guided tour of the city of Singapore. The tour takes in all the major sights of the city.

Boarding Pass Privileges
Present your boarding pass from your Singapore Airlines flight at select retail/dining outlets and you can receive exclusive discounts.

Star Alliance Benefits
If you are a member of a Star Alliance Frequent Flyer programme (such as Air New Zealand’s Airpoints or Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer; you are able to enjoy reciprocal benefits when flying with either carrier. Specific T&C’s apply as always.

Onboard Experience
Both airlines are renowned for offering a superlative inflight experience, regardless of travel class. From fresh and tasty meals to award-winning inflight entertainment and service from the flight attendants; it’s no wonder why two of the best airlines in the world (just look at what awards they have won) have teamed up to help you get to and from New Zealand in style.

Destinations A-plenty
As part of the NZ/SQ alliance; passengers can choose from flights to more than 80 destinations (combined) across both the Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines network; which includes codeshare flights.

Final Thoughts

Overall I thought the event was a fantastic was to showcase how you can experience a #BetterWayToFly to Middle-Earth with the alliance between Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand. I think they should hold a lot more of these events. Who remembers Air New Zealand’s This is How We Fly exhibit last year?
