It probably comes as no surprise to many of you that I am a fan of Air New Zealand, having flown with them a handful of times across the Atlantic between London and Los Angeles. But don’t take my word for it, others agree too.

Air New Zealand fly daily to Los Angeles and onto Auckland on flight NZ1 from London Heathrow’s Terminal 2. The flight arrives in Los Angeles around 19:00 in the evening, which still gives you time to grab some dinner before getting some rest. The return flight NZ2 departs LAX in the late afternoon and arrives back into London around 11:00.

The lowdown

Fly to Los Angeles from just £381pp when you travel between 30/10 – 06/12 2017 and 10/01 – 14/03 2018.

If you want to travel sooner or during the cooler months early next year then you can grab a return flight from £499pp. Travel must be completed between 05/09 – 29/10 2017, 01/09 – 09/01 2018 and 10/04 – 30/05 2018.

Finally if you want to travel over the holiday season and see how the West Coast celebrates Christmas without real snow (well in most of Southern California anyway), then you can fly for £542pp between 08/12 – 31/12 2017 and in the spring between 19/03 and 09/04 2018.

How to book

To take advantage of these fab fares to La La Land, you can book them directly on Air New Zealand’s website as the sale-fares have already been loaded onto the reservations system. But be quick, the sale ends on the 12th of July!

**Don’t forget to enter FLASH20 to save an additional £20pp too!**

How does the offer compare?

At the time of writing this, Norwegian Airlines are offering one-way fares from London Gatwick from £169.90pp on selected dates. British Airways are advertising fares from £409 for travel in November/December, and Virgin Atlantic are promoting flights from £432 return for travel around about the same time. All these deals are really good to Los Angeles and I love a bit of friendly competition amongst airlines.

In terms of alliances Air New Zealand are part of Star Alliance whilst BA are part of oneWorld. Norwegian and Virgin Atlantic do not belong to an alliance of such, but the latter are currently running status match promotions with other airlines.

Flying with Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand are proud (as they should be) to have been named as “Airline of the Year” by AirlineRatings.com for the past four years. So it isn’t just me who thinks they are a great airline. Flying on a Boeing 777-300 aircraft, the airline offer a very good experience in Economy, Premium Economy or Business Premier. What’s more is that the Auckland-based carrier are in the midst of completing a multi-million dollar refresh of their 777-300 fleet with new ergonomically designed seats, a very robust and reliable inflight entertainment system and various other improvements. The aircraft I’ve flown on have always been in a great condition, but this will make them appear almost brand new!

In Economy, each seat offers between 31-33″ of legroom (more than many other carriers) and seating is in a 3-4-3 configuration. This is the norm on many other airlines too. Asides from gate-to-gate entertainment, you can look forward to enjoy delicious in-flight meals and complimentary drinks and snacks which you can order from your seat throughout the flight. The carrier also introduced the revolutionary Economy Skycouch product to the world and in my opinion it is sometimes worth the extra money.
